Noted Author and Speaker Janet Krueger to Present Six Sessions at the Seventh Annual AS/400 & iSeries Connection Conference, Marco Island, Florida, June 17 - 20


Cheshire, CT, June 1st, 2001 -- Andrews Consulting Group Consultant Janet Kreuger has been invited to speak at the Seventh Annual Connection Conference, held this year at Marco Island, Florida, on June 17 - 20, on such topics as “Breathing New Life Into AS/400 Applications” and “iSeries Application Development Options.” Ms Kreuger, an award winning speaker, will present a total of six sessions at the conference. Host to the conference, the Education Connection is made up of former IBM educators, Rochester, MN AS/400 developers, IBM consultants and business partners dedicated to providing accurate and timely information about the new iSeries & AS/400 to the IBM user community. Principal concerns of the group, and the topics around which its annual conferences are based, include AS/400 Security, Application Development, Application Development With RPG, Data Communications & Internet Connectivity, eBusiness, AS/400 Databases, System Operations / Performance / Recovery, and JAVA on the AS/400.

Janet Kreuger, a consulting software engineer at Andrews Consulting Group, is regarded as an expert in the application development tools arena, and has conducted hands-on evaluation of most of the leading AS/400 tools. Formerly a member of IBM AS/400 Partners in Development, Janet was instrumental in transforming the AS/400 application base into a set of competitive e-business solutions. An expert in client/server computing, she was the lead designer of Client Access/400. A well published author and often quoted consultant, Janet is familiar to almost everyone who attends COMMON or reads NEWS400, Midrange Computing, The 400Group, and other leading trade publications. Janet Kreuger’s Sessions at the AS/400 iSeries Connection Conference

ASP Security and Privacy Policies, Mon 10:15-12:15 p.m.
This session will provide a historical perspective on computer system security and privacy policies. The speaker will discuss what policies were needed in the past, including information on how and when they were enforced, and then show how the security models need to change when systems are connected to the internet and solutions are shifted to the ASP space. An interactive discussion will be held about how to effectively distribute the responsibilities for maintaining a secure system between the customer and the ASP provider. The session will conclude with a discussion on what kinds of security breaches might occur, and how they can be dealt with effectively. After attending this session, attendees will be able to knowledgeably discuss the full range of security exposures than can occur in ASP solutions, and understand the trade-offs and technology alternatives for dealing with them.

Fast Track to Selecting an eBusiness Development Tool, Mon 2:45-4:10 p.m.
AS/400 shops are being challenged to quickly bring their application suites into the e-business world. They have to learn about new technologies and stretch both their applications and their skills without sacrificing security or the basic integrity of their data. Where do you even start to assess the skills and tools that are required to meet such challenges? This session will step you through an evaluation process that can help you determine whether a specific tool will meet your organizations needs. It will also help you ask the right questions to put together a realistic implementation plan. The examples used are based on an evaluation of LANSA, but with a goal of enabling you to assess any tool suite you might encounter.

Java Development Scenarios/Roadmap, Tue 2:45-4:10 p.m.
This session will provide you with an overview of why you should consider Java as an AS/400 development language and a guide for when and how to transition both your skill base and your code base into Java.

Breathing New Life into AS/400 Applications, Tue 4:30-5:55 p.m.
Today, AS/400 Shops--both large and small--are faced with more challenges than ever before. One of these challenges is application modernization, which can include providing a nifty GUI front end to tired green screen applications or Web-enabling legacy applications, completely replacing parts of the application portfolio with off-the-shelf componentry, leveraging new business intelligence tools, and everything in between. This session will help to put these choices into a workable framework and provide a starting point for users who are about to embark on the application modernization path as well as some new incentives for those who are waiting on the sidelines.

31B Application Development in 2004 - What's coming?, Wed 8:30-9:55 a.m.
If you enjoyed the luxury of starting a brand-new application development project, what options would you want to minimize development time and support costs while fully utilizing current and future technology? Is the mixture of what should be out-sourced and what should be kept in-house changing? What kinds of tools will be hot 3 years from now? Are there working examples today that you could use as models? This session offers a vision of competitive applications, and development environments to support them, in the Year 2004, with a goal of helping you make more strategic decisions today.

iSeries Application Development Options, Wed 10:15-11:40 a.m.
Which developers are supported most optimally on iSeries? Is the assortment different than on the AS/400? Not every iSeries application needs to be converted to Java, but what other options are going to be supported in the future? Is RPG dead? What new front-end options will IBM be endorsing? How can I effectively deploy applications from two different sources without totally confusing my users? This session will provide answers to all of these questions and more. The presenter will review all of the different development groups currently building iSeries applications and talk about what investments might be appropriate for each.
