Sessions at the AS/400 iSeries Connection Conference
ASP Security and Privacy Policies, Mon 10:15-12:15
p.m.
This session will provide a historical perspective on computer
system security and privacy policies. The speaker will discuss what policies
were needed in the past, including information on how and when they were
enforced, and then show how the security models need to change when systems
are connected to the internet and solutions are shifted to the ASP space.
An interactive discussion will be held about how to effectively distribute
the responsibilities for maintaining a secure system between the customer
and the ASP provider. The session will conclude with a discussion on what
kinds of security breaches might occur, and how they can be dealt with
effectively. After attending this session, attendees will be able to knowledgeably
discuss the full range of security exposures than can occur in ASP solutions,
and understand the trade-offs and technology alternatives for dealing
with them.
Fast Track to Selecting an eBusiness Development
Tool, Mon 2:45-4:10 p.m.
AS/400 shops are being challenged to quickly bring their application
suites into the e-business world. They have to learn about new technologies
and stretch both their applications and their skills without sacrificing
security or the basic integrity of their data. Where do you even start
to assess the skills and tools that are required to meet such challenges?
This session will step you through an evaluation process that can help
you determine whether a specific tool will meet your organizations needs.
It will also help you ask the right questions to put together a realistic
implementation plan. The examples used are based on an evaluation of LANSA,
but with a goal of enabling you to assess any tool suite you might encounter.
Java Development Scenarios/Roadmap, Tue 2:45-4:10
p.m.
This session will provide you with an overview of why you should
consider Java as an AS/400 development language and a guide for when and
how to transition both your skill base and your code base into Java.
Breathing New Life into AS/400 Applications,
Tue 4:30-5:55 p.m.
Today, AS/400 Shops--both large and small--are faced with more
challenges than ever before. One of these challenges is application modernization,
which can include providing a nifty GUI front end to tired green screen
applications or Web-enabling legacy applications, completely replacing
parts of the application portfolio with off-the-shelf componentry, leveraging
new business intelligence tools, and everything in between. This session
will help to put these choices into a workable framework and provide a
starting point for users who are about to embark on the application modernization
path as well as some new incentives for those who are waiting on the sidelines.
31B Application Development in 2004 - What's
coming?, Wed 8:30-9:55 a.m.
If you enjoyed the luxury of starting a brand-new application
development project, what options would you want to minimize development
time and support costs while fully utilizing current and future technology?
Is the mixture of what should be out-sourced and what should be kept in-house
changing? What kinds of tools will be hot 3 years from now? Are there
working examples today that you could use as models? This session offers
a vision of competitive applications, and development environments to
support them, in the Year 2004, with a goal of helping you make more strategic
decisions today.
iSeries Application Development Options, Wed
10:15-11:40 a.m.
Which developers are supported most optimally on iSeries? Is the
assortment different than on the AS/400? Not every iSeries application
needs to be converted to Java, but what other options are going to be
supported in the future? Is RPG dead? What new front-end options will
IBM be endorsing? How can I effectively deploy applications from two different
sources without totally confusing my users? This session will provide
answers to all of these questions and more. The presenter will review
all of the different development groups currently building iSeries applications
and talk about what investments might be appropriate for each.
